Storm Ciaràn is about to hit our coastline hard. While most people will snuggle down indoors with a nice cup of tea, we will still be keeping our looking and listening safety watch. There may be tea involved, too! nci.org.uk/newhaven

Here at our lookout, it was ‘spot the chopper day’ yesterday. Seen through our optics, HM Coastguard rescue helicopter is exercising in there somewhere. Can you spot it? You can play ‘spot the chopper’ for real by contacting [email protected]

Wind turbines like to sunbath! Seen from our lookout, the windfarm enjoys the remains of the day as the sun sets beneath a dramatic sky. Striking views like this can be yours by volunteering with us. Contact [email protected]

Newhaven lighthouse, seen from our lookout, can be playful at times. Now you see me….now you don’t 😊 Oh, what fun we have on watch! nci.org.uk/newhaven

A fine shot which shows our position relative to Newhaven light and harbour breakwater. That’s us top right next to the tall comms mast. We can see the cliffs and beach below us out to 14 miles into the English Channel shipping lanes. nci.org.uk/newhaven Eyes Along the Coast

‘I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o'er vales and hills.’ There’s nothing lonely about these friendly clouds seen from Seaford Head at sunset. There’s also nothing lonely about being a Watchkeeper at NCI Newhaven. To join our team, contact [email protected]

Our lookout on Castle Hill is surrounded by the history associated with Newhaven Fort. We sit atop the 6” gun emplacements and lockers last in use at the end of WW2. The lookout itself was built in the early 1960s. We will have occupied the lookout for 20 years next year.

A new meaning to Windows update! In a storm of efficiency, despite unfriendly weather, our new windows were installed yesterday. Unlike most Windows updates it did not take forever or happen at the most inconvenient time! 😊

Nautical chartwork is part of our training. All training topics go from the puzzled look of concentration to the smile of understanding. Even when seen from behind, that process is obvious here! For more training info, contact [email protected]

This equipment helps us to keep you safe along our coastline. The most important part of our equipment is the operators. That’s where you come in: you could volunteer and train as a Watchkeeper. Contact [email protected] to learn more.

Our watchkeepers got a shock when making tea: a fridge intruder and no cups left! The visitors are inspectors from the National Elf Service and are inspecting our lookout over the next few days to make sure our workplace is elfy. We’d better stock up on brownies and fairy cakes!

The things our watchkeepers see. This extraordinary scene, at the back of our lookout, is the moon setting as we came onto watch on Boxing Day. Final confirmation that the moon is a balloon! 🎈 To enjoy extraordinary sights, volunteer with us by contacting [email protected]

A painterly study of colourful horizontals exquisitely counterbalanced by subtle verticals. Or, less pretentiously, the wind farm 11 NM west of our lookout seen on a calm and colourful afternoon! nci.org.uk/newhaven

The flag relay is going strong, and the flag will be coming from NCI Shoreham to us at NCI Newhaven in a couple of days! There'll be waving, singing, rowing, walking, cycling, more waving and a train ride!
