July 1, 1920: An estimated F4 narrowly missed Corning, Iowa. Accounts stated that many residents gathered to watch the funnel as it passed to the north of the town. Five farms were left in ruins with every structure reportedly destroyed. Four people were injured. #wxhistory

July 2, 1992: An intense tornado struck Rogers and Tulsa counties in northeast Oklahoma. The twister stands as just the second F/EF3+ tornado to impact Oklahoma during the month of July. 14 residences were damaged or destroyed at Collinsville. One person was hurt. #wxhistory

July 3, 1873: A tornado (possibly of F4 intensity) destroyed several farms in Hancock County, Illinois. From a distance, witnesses initially thought the tornado was smoke from a fire. A child was killed after being carried 500 yards; 10 other people were injured. #wxhistory

Elgin, ND F4 #Tornado – July 4, 1978! The deadliest Independence Day tornado on record. Five people were killed and 35 were injured. Roughly 45 homes and trailers were damaged or destroyed, with 17 blocks of the town impacted. The community’s water tower was also demolished.

Gary–Fosston–Clearbrook, MN #Tornado – July 5, 1978! This twister was officially rated F2 (though Thomas Grazulis rated it F3), and it tore a path over 55 miles long. Gary, MN was hardest hit—clocks stopped at 1:56 AM as one-third of the town was destroyed. Twenty-three homes
