A widespread severe weather outbreak impacted the Southern US. 22 tornadoes were confirmed. For the 2nd time in a week, a violent tornado impacted southern Mississippi. The EF4 destroyed numerous homes along a 53.76 mile track. Two people were killed.

A severe weather outbreak impacted the Eastern US. The SPC received hundreds of damaging wind reports. 46 tornadoes were confirmed, 8 of which were significant (EF2+). An EF3 damaged/destroyed 13 structures near Rocky Mount, VA. 1 person was injured.

April 19, 1986:

An intense tornado tore through Sweetwater, Texas. The large & multivortex F3 devastated large section of the town. Twenty-two trailers and many brick homes were damaged or destroyed. One person was killed at a retirement village and 100 were injured.

A widespread severe weather outbreak affected numerous states from Texas to Pennsylvania. The SPC received over 1000 storm reports, over 900 of which were for wind and hail. 80 tornadoes were confirmed, including an EF3 near Girard, Illinois.

April 19, 1976:

An F5 struck near Brownwood, Texas. This tornado's rating is disputed, as Thomas Grazulis rated it F4. Four houses and several outbuildings were leveled on a farm. At an airport, 6 planes and a few aircraft hangers were destroyed. 11 people were injured.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Rosita peaked as a Category 5 on the Australian scale. The storm was one of the strongest cyclones on the west Kimberley coast in the last century. Rosita produced substantial coastal erosion and destroyed the Eco-beach resort.

An intense tornado tore through Parsons, Kansas. The F3 tracked for 34 miles and was up to 290 yards wide. 750 structures were damaged or destroyed, of which 633 were homes and 117 were commercial buildings. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.

One year ago today, cyclic supercells spawned over two dozen tornadoes in Oklahoma and Kansas. Eight of these tornadoes were significant (EF2+):

1. Cole, Oklahoma EF3
2. Strong City, Kansas EF2
3. Slaughterville-Etowah, Oklahoma EF2
4. Etowah-Pink, Oklahoma EF2

A massive outbreak of 72 tornadoes struck six states in the Midwest and Southern US. 21 tornadoes were strong (F2-F3). Illinois experienced its largest outbreak on record, as 39 twisters impacted the state. One person was killed and 109 were injured.

A localized tornado outbreak impacted the outskirts of the Oklahoma City metro. Several of the tornadoes were over a half-mile wide, and many had deviant motion. The strongest tornadoes of the day were EF3s near Cole and Pink. Two people were killed.

A mesoscale convective vortex (MCV) spawned over 40 tornadoes in Mississippi. Twelve of the tornadoes were massive, all reaching widths of ≥1000 yards. Four were rated EF2. This event stands as one of the largest outbreaks in Mississippi's history.

A substantial outbreak of ≥23 tornadoes struck the Midwest and Southern US. Four tornadoes were violent. Two F4s followed similar paths south of Springfield, MO. The town of Marshfield was all but destroyed. At least 165 people were killed.

Nevada's only documented significant tornado on record struck north of Reno. The estimated F2 was visible from the Reno Airport, and it destroyed a barn & several other structures on a ranch. No injuries were reported.

A violent, long-lived tornado tore through northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana. Per the SPC and NCDC databases, the F4 tracked for 57.3 miles. Thomas Grazulis documented near-F5 damage along the Illinois portion of the path. One person was killed.
