A folklorist. An anthropologist. The greatest writer I’ve ever read. Zora Neale Hurston would’ve been 130 today. I hope her soul is at peace today and every day.

Zora died penniless in an unmarked grave (until Alice Walker posed as her niece years after her death to find her gravesite and buy her a headstone). It took young writers and scholars, mostly Black women, to come and unearth her work to truly honor her genius.
