People across #Australia, armed with the FrogID app are revolutionising our understanding of Australia's #frogs! This data is just the first two years of the project- the next data release will more than double this! #citizenscience #WildOz 🐸

Without a doubt one of the most beautiful frog species in #Australia, the spectacular Tasmanian Tree #Frog (Litoria burrowsae). 😍 So lucky to have seen this special frog species during fieldwork in #Tasmania last week. #WildOz FrogID

The culprit of the calls in my previous post. A highly variable, colourful and loud little autumn-breeding frog species. Victorian Smooth Frog (Geocrinia victoriana). One of my fav local species with one of the best calls! #wildoz #autumnfrogs

Which #frogs are best equipped to survive the human world? This research, led by Gracie Liu & based upon FrogID data, ranks Australia’s frog species based on how likely they are to persist in human modified habitats. #AmphibianWeek Amphibian Survival Alliance australian.museum/blog/amri-news…

Dropping bromadialone across NSW in an attempt to control the mouse plague is a terrible idea. In the The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand today myself and colleagues Mike Lohr, Bill Bateman, Damian Lettoof and Dr Maggie J Watson / @terngirl.bsky.social outline the collateral damage this will cause. theconversation.com/mouse-plague-b…

Submitted to #FrogID by Australian Museum scientists is the Tasmanian Smooth Froglet (Geocrinia laevis) - a small, ground frog that is possible to hear calling throughout the year across TAS. Please record it with #FrogID if you hear it! frogid.net.au/frogs/geocrini… #FrogFriday

There are reports of Green Tree Frogs (Litoria caerulea) dying around the #Sydney area at the moment. 😢 Please contact me if you've seen any dead #frogs recently - it's not a good sign & we need to understand how widespread this is and what is causing it. #WildOz ABC Sydney

Check out why snakes don't shed colour with their skin! And for anyone with kids in Perth, I'll be answering wildlife questions at the Curious Kids book launch 10th of July!

Are ‘nuisance’ snake relocations helping snakes or just easing the public’s discomfort? Is there a more appropriate way to carry out snake catching activities in Australia? We think so. New paper in Herpetological Journal with Bill Bateman and Tom Parkin thebhs.org/publications/t…

Harlequin tree #frogs (Rhacophorus pardalis) from #Borneo, & many related species, lay their eggs on leaves above pools, & whip them up with their #feet into a foamy nest to protect them. When the eggs develop into tadpoles, they just drop into the pool below. 🐸

People are reporting Green Tree #Frogs (Litoria caerulea) dying across NSW and southern QLD. Possibly due to the cold weather weakening their resistance to a deadly frog disease. Please get in touch if you see any dead frogs! #WildOz FrogID abc.net.au/news/2021-07-2…
