Even after seven years I still can’t sleep the night before the first day of school.

We did one of my favorite projects today. After reading Chrysanthemum we made name mosaics.

Being on the buying end of school supplies is not nearly as fun as being on the receiving end of school supplies.

Today we read “Malala’s Magic Pencil” by Malala Yousafzai and made our own magic pencil. I cannot get through the end of the book without getting choked up. “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” Bells Ferry

Today we read “I Like Myself” and made these adorable self portraits.

On Monday & Tuesday we read Interrupting Chicken and Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise by @davidezrastein. We promised to not be Interrupting Chickens while others are reading and talking about what they’ve read. #readersworkshop #directeddrawing

Yesterday was the 1st day of Hispanic Heritage Month & we read Pepe and the Parade by @authortraceykyle and we made flags for our classroom! So excited to share all the books and projects we will be doing this month. #hispanicheritagemonth #culturallyresponsiveteaching

Beautiful Frida Kahlo was our Hispanic Heritage muse for today. We read Frida by Jonah Winter and illustrated by Ana Juan. We made Frida suns and discussed how Frida left her legacy. #hispanicheritagemonth #fridakahlo Bells Ferry Cobb ELA
