As Liverpool prepare for the #ChampionsLeagueFinal, one question remains - who will the pride of Everton be supporting? We travelled to Merseyside to find out… (18+ BeGambleAware)

/ If you’ve ever wondered how we ended up in this mess with Farhad Moshiri as owner of Everton, pull up a seat, boardroom battle lines are appearing to being drawn, notably those aligning with the Kenwright camp.

/ Story (nothing new revealed) in the Guardian the other day, about Usmanov's 'influence' at EFC – an opening bit of easy mudslinging. Oddly enough, reminds me of another shadow from times past - a big hello to Philip Green!

/ Expecting more across the papers in the days ahead, to diss the owner of the club (not that he doesn't deserve such criticism). Been here before when there's heat on Kenwright. The wagons are rounded, and the usual friendly suspects will wax lyrical in the papers and on radio.

/ Wonder though how we as a club got to this position, whereby such a great name of English football is now "owned" by a foreign absentee owner? We need to rewind the clock to 2004 - where there's turmoil and strife in the Boardroom at Everton. The AGM is looming...

/ Despite the necessary sale of Wayne Rooney months previously, to avoid the club going into administration (Trevor Birch's words, not mine!), the team had put together an excellent start to the season. After an excellent win away at Pompey, Kenwright pops up on the radio....

/ Interviewed by Jonathan Pearce on BBC5Live, Kenwright reveals the imminent arrival of Fortress Sports Fund and their millions. He doesn't name any individuals behind this fund, but happily declares that he will remain as chairman of EFC. The incoming millions will go to Moyes!

/ Chris Samuelson is wheeled out at the AGM, where he informs shareholders what Fortress Sports Fund will bring to Everton. He refuses to name the faceless investors in this fund; it goes down like a lead balloon with some present. Still, Moyes will have a "transfer warchest"!

/ Samuelson's performance at the AGM disintegrates into a farce (blame Derek Temple!), so Bill intervenes, asking Mike Owen (author of 'Der Ball Ist Rund') for a comment or question. Mr. Owen asks if FSF want control of the club. Kenwright denies this.

/ Mr. Owen points out that the investment from FSF aligned with Kenwright's shareholding amounts to a 50.01% control of the club, leading to his question, "should I be worried about control of this football club going out of the country?" Samuelson denies, no takeover planned.

/ Any future takeover will be a decision for shareholders, "we have that option" says Kenwright. In due course it emerges that FSF was nothing more than a charade, to ensure that fellow director Paul Gregg does not acquire control of the club. "A means to an end..."

/ The only shares Kenwright ever actively worked to sell at Everton - those of the rival Gregg family, who exit stage left. Hello, Robert Earl - he of Planet Hollywood fame. Kenwright's grip of the club strengthens. Sylvester Stallone is a Blue. All is good with the world.

/ The years pass, the links - tenuous or otherwise - come and go: Bill still seemingly cannot find a buyer, to move Everton forward. Fast-forwarding beyond the entire Kirkby debacle, Bill finds in Moshiri a buyer who will retain Bill as chairman. Happy days!

/ So here we are - 'stuck' with an owner, one who has put a lot of money in, but needs to go /sell; copping deserved flak for the disarray at the club. One thing we cannot allow happen, a rewrite of history from those defending Kenwright. He brought him here, he championed him.
