LAB CREW feeds and maintains life support systems daily at the Station and the Newport Aquarium, and monitors the river for HABs and VOCs. Lab-based independent studies include mussel fish-host ID, and fathead minnow breeding experiments and invert toxicity tests with the U.S. EPA.

ECO STEM CAMP! Today, we learned about the biodiversity, chemistry, and water quality of the River thru hands-on lessons & field sampling. Thanks to the Duke Energy and Dr. George A. & Dolores E. Renaker Foundations (Stephanie Renaker-Ja) for making these programs possible!

ECO STEM CAMP! Yesterday, campers electrofished and kayaked on the Ohio River. Today, they explored the floodplain nature trail, learned about animal husbandry, and presented their findings on the health of the River to their peers, Station staff, and the interns. Come back soon!

SNDs at the BIO STATION! Today, the Sisters of Notre Dame (Sisters of Notre Dame USA) visited for a tour and tree planting in honor of their member, and the Thomas More University Field Station’s founding director, the late Sr. Mary Laurence Budde.

USEPA RESEARCH at the BIOSTATION: Today, the Thomas More University invertebrate zoology class conducted a research project with the EPA to refine aquatic biology sampling protocols by sorting macroinvertebrates from a variety of artificial-substrate samplers in the River.
