It's that wonderful time of year, so I will be tweeting about two phenomenal students on the job market. Both are among the best students I have worked with. I have learned a ton from their job market papers. First up, Huihuang Zhu. huihuangzhu.com/research

Notably the swing is FAR more pronounced in the forward-looking "expectations" index. Much less movement in people's assessment of current economic conditions.

Okay, last but certainly not least, I'll tweet about another excellent student, David Henning. David is a development economist, focusing on firms and their interactions with regulation/tax administration. His JMP studies how tax audits affect firms AND aggregate output in Uganda.

This is an excellent summary of Musk’s takeover of the Treasury from New York Magazine’s Chas Danner, with quotes from WSJ, NYT, WaPo, and my op-ed from MSNBC yesterday. But this quote from Seth Masket is right on the money. This isn’t efficiency. It’s a coup. nymag.com/intelligencer/…

The best study I know estimates that each dollar of NIH spending generates $1.40-$2.80 in value counting *only the private return from drugs*, ignoring consumer surplus, med devices, public health, behavioral science, etc...

He literally says "I'm Senator Alex Padilla" within the first two seconds of being grabbed! Kristi Noem's claim that he only "finally identified himself" after he was handcuffed is just completely made up.

Governor, instead of subsidizing more demand, can your constituent Adam Ozimek and I interest you in a statewide version of this great housing idea? eig.org/density-zones/

Y’all, I wrote a book! The Science of Second Chances is based on my decades of work studying crime and criminal behavior, first as an economics professor and now as a policy expert at Arnold Ventures. It shares what we know from cutting-edge research about how to intervene at

That is not at all what this figure says. The probability of being sentenced to prison after an arrest is much higher for those with priors — and all the arrestees that aren’t sentenced to prison (partly because they don’t have priors) are conveniently omitted from this figure.

By now you've heard that native-born employment is up by millions, according to the jobs report, right? Not true. Not conceivably true. That analysis is a multiple-count data felony -- as Census and BLS warn. I took a long romp through the details. Link below.
