Douglas McKenna inspired me at the Bridges Math Art Eindhoven 2025 conference to devise another space-filling curve family, which I call Chip Curves. The generator has 9*9+4*5 segments. The yellow curve starts at the left and ends at the top. #mathart #digitalart #Tissellator

This 2nd iteration of the Chip Curves family shows the increasing number of battlements on one side of the curve generator, and the spiral towards the center. Spiraling of such curves is already known from Douglas McKenna’s SquaRecurves and Frenzies Curves. #mathart #Tissellator

This tessellation is based on the space-filling Chip Curve of size 7. The two deformed bird prototiles are always separated by the red curve, which runs from left top to top right. #mcescher #escherart #escher #mathart #digitalart #bird #Tissellator

This animation was created using a closed space-filling Chip Curve of size 7. The tiles are assigned to the left or right of the curve and deformed according to the EODS. Compare this to the next animation. #mcescher #escherart #escher #mathart #digitalart #bird #Tissellator

This animation was also created using a closed space-filling Chip Curve of size 7. The vertices can be used as nodes of square tiles. The tiles are deformed according to the NODS. Compare this to the previous. #mcescher #escherart #escher #mathart #digitalart #fish #Tissellator

This animation shows McKenna’s space-filling SquaRecurve of size 25 with two deformation schemes: NODS and EODS. Only the generators are shown because the 2nd generation has too many tiles, namely 390625. #mcescher #escherart #escher #mathart #digitalart #fish #bird #Tissellator

Here's a chart of Douglas McKenna's space-filling SquaRecurves, ranging in size from 5 to 35. The assignment of the red/blue squares to the left/right of the curve is unclear (to me). Therefore, an algorithm is used to calculate the assignments. #mathart #digitalart #Tissellator

This animation shows the second iteration of McKenna’s space-filling Eddy curve of size 4 with two deformation schemes: NODS and EODS. #mathart #digitalart #fish #bird #Tissellator

This animation shows the second iteration of McKenna's space-filling Frenzy curve of size 5. The blue tiles are to the right of the curve segments, and the red tiles are to the left. #mathart #digitalart #Tissellator

These images are made from a self-replicating heptahex, a supertile of 7 hexagons, as in the lower right corner of the first image. The heptahexes are not all connected, and lakes appear in higher iterations, and those lakes contain islands! #mathart #digitalart #Tissellator

This image is made from a single, deformed self-replicating heptahex. The middle hexagon of the heptahex is considered the parent and has a different color according to the rainbow scheme: the oldest hexagon is purple and the youngest one is red. #mathart #digitalart #Tissellator

This image is made of a single, deformed self-replicating heptadiamond taking six iterations. It appears to be shaped like a witch on a broomstick with a large wart on her nose. #mcescher #escherart #escher #mathart #digitalart #witch #Tissellator

What do you think this fractal image looks like? It is made of a single self-replicating 7-iamond, a reptile of 7 equilateral triangles shown in the corner. The outcome of the iteration process is always a surprise. #mathart #digitalart #fractal #dragon #Tissellator

What do you think this fractal image looks like? The reptile of 7 equilateral triangles shown in the corner is the same as in the Halloween image, but now the reptile is mirrored during the iterations, and the triangles are rotated.#mathart #digitalart #nature #Tissellator
