The Common Crane showed very nicely at Barrapol #Tiree this pm before flying on to my 3km patch at Loch a' Phuill - my first on Tiree in 24 years and my 300th species for Argyll! Patchwork Challenge BirdGuides

Parties of brick-red Black-tailed Godwits are still passing through #Tiree this week (no colour-ringed birds sadly) on their way to Iceland but, unusually for here, they have been outnumbered by Whimbrel Graham Appleton

Male Pied Flycatcher in the garden at Balephuil #Tiree last night and showing well again this morning (pic) - the earliest on record for the island BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

Dozens of Whimbrels still stopping over on #Tiree given the recent lack of favourable tail winds, including this Welsh-colour-ringed bird (P10) today at Kilkenneth Graham Appleton Patchwork Challenge

The 2CY male Pied Flycatcher remains in the Balephuil #Tiree garden for its fifth day, shared with 2 Grasshopper Warblers, 3 Cuckoos, 3 Woodpigeons, a singing Goldcrest (rare here) and 8 Common Redpolls BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

The long-staying Pied Flycatcher in the Balephuil #Tiree garden was replaced today by the first Spotted Flycatcher of the year here, together with 6 species of warbler BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

Nice moth catch in the Balephuil, #Tiree garden last night (35 of 17 spp) produced the first Clouded Silver for the island, the second Small Phoenix and a dapper Netted Pug (with a Light Knot Grass) UK Moth Identification

Tree Sparrow new in the Balephuil #Tiree garden this morning - they are less than annual visitors to the island, so are always good to see BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

Spot the Corncrake! Photo taken from inside our garden at Balephuil #Tiree just now - a typically well concealed bird! Patchwork Challenge

Was hoping for Garganey on my check of breeding wetland birds in West #Tiree today but was surprised to find this un-ringed drake Wood Duck instead BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

This female Hawfinch dropped in to the Balephuil #Tiree garden late afternoon to make the most of the feeders. Also a Carrion Crow (rare here) at Loch an Eilein this morning BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

A run of commoner migrants around the Balephuil, #Tiree patch in the last few days: up to 10 Woodpigeons, 3 Spotted Flycatchers and a brief Robin last night in the garden (the only one on the island this May so far...) Patchwork Challenge

A steady run of new migrants in the Balephuil #Tiree garden with Reed Warbler (video of song) & Garden Warbler on 17th & Lesser Whitethroat on 18th. A presumably new Tree Sparrow today, plus a lingering Spotted Flycatcher Patchwork Challenge BirdGuides

Great spring birding on #Tiree today: 2 adult Curlew Sandpipers plus a female Yellow Wagtail (potentially Grey-headed?) on the machair next to the Loch a' Phuill hide, plus a drake Garganey on the early morning wader survey BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

Stonking but elusive singing adult male Common Rosefinch found at ca 9am by Nick Wall at Mannal #Tiree, which I relocated about 1 mile further south at Hynish (pic) at 10am BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

This Snow Goose was a surprise with the Greylags at Loch na Gile, #Tiree this afternoon. Also an early and large emergence of Marsh Fritillary butterflies and Four-spotted Chaser dragonflies on the central sliabh BirdGuides Patchwork Challenge

A few scarcer migrants around the Balephuil #Tiree 3km patch yesterday: Lesser Whitethroat, Tree Pipit (FOY) and Pink-footed Goose, also a flighty Wood Sandpiper at Loch a' Phuill Patchwork Challenge BirdGuides

Adult Snipe feeding 2 chicks - something I rarely see, despite there being hundreds of breeding pairs on #Tiree Graham Appleton Patchwork Challenge

Watchful Redshank guarding its brood in the Yellow Flag Irises today - it appears to have been a good breeding season for them on #Tiree, with broods all over the island just now Graham Appleton Patchwork Challenge
