The StAndrews Experience 2020. Barricaded in bedroom to avoid roommate. Attempting to produce a high-qual master thesis from an Aldi camping folding table strapped to 8 cans of beans for height adjustment.

You probably heard of principal component analysis (PCA) as a powerful tool for dimensionality reduction, but did you know that neurons might perform PCA via Hebbian plasticity? (1/6)

I read something. I learn something really, really cool. I am now too excited to continue reading anything. My golden-retriever toddler mind is tail-waggingly sabotaging my productivity. When that happens to you, do you distract yourself or take your grin for a run?

“Perhaps material engagement theory just had a point to prove”, she thought, breathless, with sore arms, as the echo-y zoom call forced her to present just this theory from within an impromptu, manually held up blanket fort, devoid of gestures, air,or a sensible body temperature.

Ladies, if your man ✅ stretches and changes you 💕 ✅ but allows you the freedom to go back to your old form that's not your man, that's a linear transformation represented by an invertible matrix.

Rating the podcast that reliably makes me run "just one more lap to finish this episode" while grinning like a sweaty idiot now comes with feeding real-life people? I love this! 😍

Not only did my little sister build and sent out a questionnaire to her classmates for her BigData presentation, but casually ran a regression on it to illustrate how targeted social media ads work. She's in high-school, apparently an R-natural, and most definitely my hero.

Celebrating #WorldChimpanzeeDay with a pic of what our #chimpanzees at #Ozouga did on this day: hunting and cracking open the carapaces of #tortoises, a #percussive #technology so far only observed at our site. Thanks to our #MattRolland!

In our design, a piece of food was hidden in one of two boxes, which could be pulled with two different ropes. In the control condition, chimps could see which box the food was hidden in, and mostly just pulled one of the two ropes. Here is Asega in the control condition.

I had a wonderful first PhD week at #EFP_GfP2022 ! ☺️ A big, big thank-you to @AlbaMotes1 and all those who welcomed me this warmly (or gave encouraging nods during my talk🙏). I'm sad to leave early, but thrilled to move to St Andrews tomorrow☺️

Very happy my 📷 of a wild chimpanzee’s morning call was selected as the Runner-up in the Royal Society of Biology Photo Competition! It also happens to encapsulate my PhD thesis: social awareness (audience in the background) and vocal development (younger males chorusing) of pant hoots 👌🏻

Watch this video where Stijn Deborggraeve demystifies the math around cost of making GeneXpert test. The US corporations Cepheid and Danaher Corporation charge between $10-20 for this test used for different diseases, while it can be easily sold at $5 with a decent profit. Its #Timefor5 !

Hey Danaher Corporation: You're already in the news. Great story about Danaher's price gouging and nerdfighteria's refusal to accept it. #PeopleOverProfits goodgoodgood.co/articles/john-…

Why is Cepheid intentionally price-gouging the world's poorest people for tuberculosis tests? And what can you do about it? #PeopleOverProfits It's all in this video: youtu.be/tSC06P9A5W4?si…
