Lotus Evija X. A one-off, track-only electric hypercar, it has lapped the Nurburgring in 6min 24sec. But… it’s best known for crashing into the straw bales on the hill climb at Goodwood Festival of Speed last year.

The 10,000th Lotus Emira, built in December 2024, with a wrap that features the name of everyone who worked in Hethel at the time. It took Lotus two-and-a-half years to build 10,000 examples of the Emira. For comparison, the Esprit took 28 years to reach the same total.

Lotus Evija can lap the Hethel circuit in about 1min 20sec, I’m told – about 10 seconds quicker than the new Emira Turbo SE. Top speed is capped at 217mph, although a development car hit 250mph in testing at Nardo.

Coolest print ad I’ve seen for a while (back cover of the latest Evo magazine). This is Porsche 911 Turbo ‘No. 1’, given to Louise Piëch as a 70th birthday gift It was the only narrow-bodied 930 (I think), with a red/blue tartan interior and the 10,000rpm tacho from an RSR.

‘Richard Burns 5’ spotted in Caterham. Still looking good on standard Speedline 17s with the compulsory bigger exhaust.

‘It makes even a conventionally fast car – a 911 GT3, for example – feel a tad lackadaisical. Your brain struggles to keep up.’ Read my review of the 1,108hp Porsche Taycan Turbo GT (also available without zebra stripes). Now live on Motoring Research: motoringresearch.com/car-reviews/po…

Citroen Mehari spotted in Mallorca. This is an earlier, pre-1978 model and looks remarkably fresh. Spot the 2CV-style gear selector. Some versions had an additional lever alongside to engage four-wheel drive.
