According to the Egyptians, you could learn a text by ingesting it. In Setne I, Naneferkaptah drinks the ashes dissolved in water of a papyrus with the Book of Thoth magical formulae. In fact, the verb 𓂝𓅓𓄈𓀁 ʿm means “to swallow” and “to know, understand” (Coptic ⲉⲓⲙⲉ).

This millefiori bead is the product of a Mediterranean workshop. It was found in a woman's grave in Güttingen, dating around 600 AD.
It's one of the many pieces of evidence of north-south trade in the early Middle Ages.

A papyrus letter from Egypt, written by Paniskos to his wife Ploutogenia, asking her to travel to Koptos. He asks her to bring olives, wine, wool, their clothes, his military kit, & her gold jewellery - but he warns her not to wear it on the journey!

Incredible to think that in 1982 in the UK it was still legal to refuse to serve women in pubs for no reason other than they were women

An amazing piece of graffiti - a sketch of a centurion, complete with helmet & spear, scratched into the rock of the theatre at Leptis Magna (Libya). A fantastic & very unusual piece of Roman military art!
