Inbox: Adrienne Adams is requesting an NYPD Office of the Inspector General investigation into the NYPD's social media practices and policies.
This comes amid rising criticism of NYPD top brass' increasingly freewheeling approach to going after critics on Twitter.
We’re proud to have organized a joint letter to Mayor Eric Adams to condemn Chief Chell’s inappropriate treatment of elected officials and journalists, most recently Tiffany Cabán.
Thank you to the elected officials across New York who joined us.
Our letter:
Led by Brad Lander, the group of 39 electeds includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Jamaal Bowman Ed.D. & dozens of Council members & state legislators.
Their letter doesn't specify what discipline they want Chell to face, but Tiffany Cabán suggested: 'He should be fired today.' nydailynews.com/2024/05/03/nyc…
don’t really see anyone talking about this but: arrestees at CUNY were charged with *felonies* while arrestees at Columbia were charged with misdemeanors. nobody should be charged with anything but it is a travesty that poorer & racialized students bear the brunt of this struggle
I stand with Tiffany Cabán and denounce this reprehensible and dangerous behavior by NYPD Chief of Patrol. Tiffany has been a courageous leader has consistently showed up for our city and her constituents. This behavior is shameful and unacceptable!
.Tiffany Cabán fights tooth-and-nail everyday for a safer and more just New York.
The Chief's now deleted post was completely reckless and unprofessional.
.NYPD Chief of Patrol has deleted this tweet where he wrote that Tiffany Cabán 'hates our city' before urging his followers to start 'getting involved' if they 'want change.'
This comes after Chell drew electioneering concerns over a similar post in April: nydailynews.com/2024/04/02/ada…
This post is unacceptable on so many levels: inappropriate, unethical, dangerous. Regardless of where you personally stand, an official government account should not be used in this way. This post incites violence against a government official. Mayor Eric Adams must have this removed.
.Tiffany Cabán has always focused on solutions rooted in peace and justice and the chief’s focus always seems to be the opposite…
These comments incite violence, and the public deserves more coming from those charged to protect.
