Play time is over.

When I was sworn in, I was 1 month postpartum, balancing the care of my newborn and mother, with the duty to serve District 34.

As parents who've navigated the complexities of child care firsthand, we know that this is more than just policy-it's a lifeline.

At the hearing, Alexa Avilés, chair of the Council’s Immigration Committee, said that while the city has been offering services to migrants in Spanish and English, it has failed to meet the needs of those who speak other languages.

As Chair of the Immigration Committee, Alexa Avilés is showing what leading with compassion looks like.

This historic hearing will ensure the voices of Black immigrants are heard and centered as NYC works to welcome new arrivals and connect them with necessary resources.

Hearing that our hearing is trending on Twitter

I’m proud to co-chair today and keep the focus on community

Service organizations and faith-based providers have been on the frontlines of delivering dignity and no amount of right wing extremism and racism can undo this good work

Thousands of African migrants are rallying at City Hall to have their voices heard. They add to the tapestry that makes New York— New York! We hope the Mayor hears their voices!

A security guard tells me an est. 1,200 people are in line outside New York Coty Hall.

These are largely Black migrants here for a council hearing on the experiences of Black migrants.

The guard said there's never before been that many attendees for a hearing.

NYC has the largest Black immigrant population of any metro area. Our city is failing to meet the moment and properly support newly arrived migrants, including those from West Africa. Today's hearing is crucial and timely. Tune in at the link below. Alexa Avilés Mercedes Narcisse

A decision was made cowardly, late on a Friday, to not hold the officers who murdered Trawick accountable, even after the CCRB ruled that the officers did not comply with the law.
