Raritan River pathogens results for July 28, 2022 indicate high levels of Enterococcus at our most upstream site (Riverside Park) and our most downstream site (Perth Amboy). See the LRWP website for info on our boat build, our August 13 South River paddle, and more.

.37in in the rain gauge 8.11.2022, just b4 volunteer sampling. The “first flush” of rain after a dry spell typically washes a lot of muck off our land surfaces and into our waters and = high bacteria levels. This is the case this week for our most upstream & downstream sites.

It was a beautiful day for a paddle on the South River, and perfect weather to roll up the bay doors on the boat house while getting forms up for canoe builds. We also cleaned up 2 bags worth of litter. Thanks to all involved!

Pathogens monitoring results for August 18, 2022. Our upstream sites (Piscataway and New Brunswick) aren’t looking so good. If your weekend plans include on-water recreation, make sure you wash well after contact with the water!

Last month I met w/ Wiyot tribal community members & learned about pending Wiyot acquisition of tribal lands to deal with sea level rise and landscape restoration. The transfer to tribal ownership is now complete, and it is precedent setting thing! now.humboldt.edu/news/reclaimin…

Enjoyed the Raritan 9.9.2022 via the Rutgers Research Vessel. 30+ eagles, plus osprey, egrets, herons, cormorants, kingfishers. Also maybe a loggerhead turtle! See also our wq pathogens results from 9.8.2022. Pre-reg for our Spanish language Raritan River boat trip on 9.23.2022.

In environmental monitoring, a picture is worth a thousand words. Crowd-sourcing hundreds or thousands of field photos for sustained environmental monitoring and reporting is even better! Proud to implement this #civicscience monitoring project with the #LRWP #lookfortheriver

Such an interesting project. Getting at the intersection of geography, history and culture. What defines the boundaries of a place isn't always objective. Your urban neighborhood boundaries are different depending on who you ask. And when.
