Lt. Col. Dauda Musa Komo, former military administrator of Rivers State (1993–96), died suddenly last Friday, 30 May. His death reopens a dark chapter in Nigeria’s military dictatorship, especially the persecution of the Ogoni people and the “judicial murder” of Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Most infamously, he was the architect of the Rivers State Internal Security Task Force, led by the notorious late then Major Paul Okuntimo. The task force killed people, burnt down whole villages and detained masses of people arbitrarily in illegal detention and torture centres.
