We are not called to protect our institutions, nor do we protect the God of truth by covering up sin and/or a crime. To do so is to “protect” a cancer – and cancer kills. We honor God by caring for the wounded and by dragging sin to the light and calling it by its right name.

Drunk driving is selfish as hell.

I’m sure God would be quite pleased for a woman like my mom to be guilted by statements like these into staying in a truly abusive situation. I’m also gonna go ahead and guess that when God told men to honor their wives that domestic violence was not what he had in mind.

A significant issue within the Church regarding abuse is that its theology often suggests that all sins are equal, which can lead to minimizing abuse and offering "cheap grace" to perpetrators.

I also would love to know the answer to this.
