An interesting development in the House of Lords is that Private Notice Questions (the equivalent of Urgent Questions in the Commons) increased during Lord Speaker Fowler (2016-21) - there was a ‘Fowler effect’ on PNQs similar to the Bercow effect on UQs. 1/

This is a really interesting post and something I pondered when watching a few maiden speeches during the debate on the address. I’d probably argue against doing them during legislative or general debates unless Members were also going to speak to the issue at hand.
