351 PM #HAWAII #TSUNAMI UPDATE: A 3 meter or greater (9 ft +) tsunami is expected for the Hawaiian Islands where a Tsunami Warning is in effect. Residents and tourists should seek immediate higher ground in this emergency situation. The first waves expected at 717 PM HST.

USGS has confirmed that this 8.7 magnitude earthquake is the largest in the world since the 2011 Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Event, which was a 9.0 magnitude.

Massive aftershocks have been occurring off the eastern coast of Russia since the original now 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck. A tsunami threat remains for the coasts of Russia, Japan, and Ecuador.
