I remember vividly when the Minneapolis bridge collapsed. 15 miles away on a road regularly traveled. Calls to loved ones failed. Friends saw it in rear view mirrors. One stopped just before. They searched for people and helped the injured. Lives changed. Praying for Baltimore.

Right now you can be a person who tries to help calm things down or a person who tries to make things worse. We all have agency here.

That awful feeling you have in your body right now is grief. Whether or not we care to admit it, we are ALL grieving. We are grieving what we have become. We are grieving the ever widening divides. We are grieving the loss of what we hoped our nation to be.

Many of us feel scared, and exhausted by the sense that there’s nothing we can do to fix this. It feels trite and foolish to say that the best thing I can do tomorrow is teach the Bible to kids and hug friends and say “this is Christ’s body, broken for you.” But I think it is.
