I really don't love this repeated framing about rookie councillors operating dysfunctionally. Andre was insubordinate. We saw that repeatedly, in public. Andre frequently boasted about his closeness and working relationship with the UCP, who actively undermines this council.

This is fucking authoritarian. It doesn’t fit with academic freedom at all. Hell, it doesn’t fit with democracy. Smith wants to control every aspect of life. What a failure.

She’s strangled funding to higher education, but that isn’t enough. She will now directly interfere with research if it doesn’t align with her donors beliefs. This is becoming progressively more dangerous.

The police response in Calgary to the university student protest last night is a noteworthy contrast to police responses to neo-Nazi and anti-LGBTQ+ rallies in this city. I've lived here my whole life and am shocked to see the different approaches.

In 1999 and 2003, students at the University of Calgary set up a tent city to protest tuition increases and a lack of affordable student housing. Police did not intervene. #yyc #ableg U Calgary
