Two stats this week via Dylan Wiliam stuck in my mind: 1. Teachers teaching top end class can be 6 times more likely to be judged favourably compared to teaching bottom end class. 2. Novice teacher can take 4 hrs to plan 1 hr lesson; expert T can take just 5 mins! Learning curve!

You are right there are distinct strategies for subtraction. When you learn early to understand subtraction it’s a glimpse of how beautiful learning mathematics can be. Unfortunately too many teachers still call them all ‘take-aways’ leading to life-long confusion for some.
