West Coast ports have long handled the majority of container traffic due to proximity to major Asian sea routes and more recently constraints of post Panamax shipping. East and Gulf Coast are home to the major auto carrier docks & bulk terminals which globally are less automated

Frankly I think the average poster here seems to be underrating how much the general electorate doesn't care about Israel Palestine regardless of who "wins" or what that victory looks like.

There is no technology to appreciably automate RO/ROs or bulkers more than we presently do, which makes up the large bulk of the longshoremen workforce, and value of goods going through East Coast ports. Automation takes on both sides are brain dead for whats a peripheral issue.

Your friend is a moron. The US isn't in a "managed decline" or any other kind of decline. That's his personal anxiety about aging talking. 15 years ago "multipolar world" talk was in vogue. Now, talk is bi-polar with China, maybe. But maybe not because of their problems.

One of the moments I'm personally proud of in my engineering career was involvement in a road redesign project genuinely focused on traffic calming and pedestrian safety, and we DID include chicanes in the design as a way to force vehicles to slow down.
