Ipswich deserve to be relegated simply for their reaction to Davis’ red card. This is the tribalistic BS within the game. It turns people into monsters. But of course the club won’t come out and apologize for the behavior.

I rarely post about my own refereeing, but this weekend I was out with the 2 nicest gents in refereeing and our match day coach was Alan Wiley who refereed my favourite FA cup final of all time. All round, a great day out as a match official.

As we reach the end of this footballing season, whatever schemes or campaigns were put in place to look after and encourage respect for referees have all failed as I'm hearing and reading about some of the most abhorrent acts I've ever heard in football towards match officials.

It's comments like this from faceless accounts of c**** online like this that means that referee abuse will never really end, nor will it be taken seriously.

I think it was always instilled to referees that you just keep going no matter what gets said and don't let the trolls win. But it takes way more courage to walk away from something that you love doing.

And so my 20 plus year refereeing journey comes to an end. Happy retirement to me 😀 couldn't have asked for a better ref to line to for a final game ❤️

The worst thing about social media isn't the fake news and AI slop, it's that it scratches the socialising itch just enough that no one can be arsed actually doing anything any more. Even getting a handful of people to a pub 5 mins away is a chore

Congratulations to all of the officials chosen for these games, but I find it so sad that the pgmol account has had to turn off comments because they know of the Relentless abuse that these people will get as a result of this announcement.

It's literally to prevent abuse from people who shouldn't be making their threats over the internet, but do.

Once again, this is something that should be celebrated in the world of football; Having English referees appointed to such high prestige fixtures, but because of the toxic culture in football in this country, comments have to be turned off to prevent abuse and threats.
