Students in my early African American Lit class will be reading Toni Morrison’s “The Site of Memory” as an introductory text this semester. With the news of her passing, I’ll be emphasizing the significance of her transcendent voice more than ever.

Having a great day at #samla91 so far. I’ve presented a paper, chaired a panel, heard about a lot of fascinating projects, seen some old friends, and made some new ones. Looking forward to more. #SAMLA

Imagine what it could be like if our nation had an administration that strove for unity rather than division and placed the needs and the wellbeing of the PEOPLE first, rather than their own selfish interests.

Wait... I thought we could just pretend everything was fine and go back to business as usual without consequences. Is that not right?

John Lewis will be missed. Such an important voice from the mid-20th century to today. He strove for love and equality. Each time I teach FSU’s African American Lit survey, we end with his graphic memoir March. His legacy will live on.

After years of dreaming about it, I’m finally teaching a Video Game Storytelling class. So of course I had to show off my #HollowKnight swag.

Pres Trump claims the 1619 project distorts and "rewrites" American history. He says the project wrongly says America was founded on "oppression not freedom." Fact: At America's founding, kidnapped enslaved black people were exploited. The consequences of slavery continue today.

This is promoting white nationalism and American exceptionalism. Not only that, but attacking the 1619 Project and enforcing indoctrination propaganda through the education system is another step toward fascism.

Josh Murray and I submitted the manuscript of Editing the Harlem Renaissance to Clemson University Press this evening. The first book for both of us. Cheers! @JD_Morgenstern @MeroAlison

Putting together Editing the Harlem Renaissance with Ross K. Tangedal has been a fun ride, and I’m looking forward to the next stage of the process.
