Ghana is 69 today. But honestly, I don’t feel pride, I feel pain. What does independence mean when ordinary people still suffer daily just to survive? Electricity is expensive, salaries are stagnant, rent keeps rising, and many communities still lack clean drinking water.

Illegal mining has destroyed our forests and poisoned our rivers. Greed and corruption continue while the law looks away. The same powerful families keep getting richer while the average Ghanaian keeps sweating just to eat.

Many young people today feel something our independence was never supposed to produce: hopelessness. 69 years later, independence should have meant dignity, opportunity, and self-reliance. Instead, it feels like we are still fighting for the basics. Happy Independence Day I guess
