"Why? You'd think the man you've married would tell you a little more about what you're getting into?" He was starting to sound secretive, at least as he was described.

"You'll be in the loop, not just delegated to care taker, right?" Taxx found a seat in the sitting room, looking over the decor. Something about it all felt fake. Like an untrue exterior.

"Good. I don't want to see him walk all over you. Husband or father in law." They crossed one leg over the other. The place was...lame, to say the least. They were much more used to lavish finishes and modern furniture. "Becauae you let them, mind you."

"Finally..." Taxx couldn't help the remark as the air seemed to fall cold and silent. They would hold their next question until later, waiting to see if Elijah would offer anything of substance their way.

"Well I'd hope you only get better than your last." Despite their looks Taxx's personality was quite reserved although most of anyone knew their calculating nature behind it. "Working. Exciting stuff I know. So I won't bore you with the details."

"There isn't much. Except that I've superseded almost every other prominent gang in Las Vegas. But you wouldn't know about that," their tone began to sour as their eyes trained in on Elijah.

"You're married Elijah, how can it still hurt? You should be happy exactly where you are." Taxx had grown used to the pain as it changed over the years. "If you wanted to be a part of my life, you would be. Don't pretend that you do now just because you have to look at me."

"I know that you keep faith in the make-believe, but you shouldn't. We would have ended just like every other relationship of yours should we have kept it up. Surely this is better? Where we can still talk to each other without hate?"

"Because I stopped it before you could grow hateful of me." It was true. Taxx was perceptive enough to see where things would go with time, even if Elijah wanted to cling to hope. Eventually they would have grown bitter with each other.

"It was the best decision I could have made at the time." And then Elijah continued to make mistakes...but somehow he never came running back to Taxx. Maybe it's what they were waiting for...they would never admit that.

Their eyes narrowed slightly. Was he really about to cry? Even after all this time? "Don't be ridiculous...you'd be unhappy with me. Do you know how much I had to sacrifice over the years? I wouldn't have stopped for you.. "

Taxx stood up as soon as Elijah did. "That's not it at all, and you know that. I was trying to /prevent that from happening, and I did."

"That isn't it at all." Somehow, Elijah always misconstrue their words just to hurt himself. Taxx walked over to Elijah - so close to him but still they didn't touch. "I didn't want you to waste your life waiting around for me, and the mistakes I would have made."

"Perfect... you can't tell yourself that. No relationship in the world is perfect. What about what you have now??" It's not like Taxx had come here just to remind them of what was. They missed Elijah and wanted to see him succeed.

"Then tell me so I do understand." Taxx held Elijah's cheeks to wipe away the tears for him, holding him steady as if to be his physical support too. "I thought I was doing the best for you."
