🧵The first law to be enacted by the Egypt gov in 2024 is a historical amendment to the Egyptian criminal procedures code. Law No.1/2024 brings a change to the felonies review to be done in 2 stages instead of just one. 1/3

The Biden admin argues that its 'coalition' attacks in Yemen on Houthi targets are a commitment to uphold the rules-based international order. But in not seeking authorization from the UN for such sustained strikes, the US only further weakens it.

The Biden administration has repeatedly said it opposes a buffer zone and reduction in territory in Gaza, but Israel is moving ahead anyway, including by destroying civilian infrastructure. washingtonpost.com/world/2024/01/…

Biden's Conventional Arms Transfer policy prohibits arms transfers if it is "more likely than not" that the arms would "aggravate RISKS that the recipient will commit:  genocide." The International Court of Justice said today that such claims are "plausible."

Can you believe that this title is totally acceptable The New York Times and it was published just today?! Thomas L. Friedman talks about the Middle East as “animal kingdom”?! It will never get more racist, supremacist, orientalist and colonialist than this. What’s more absurd and ironic here

In a new bipartisan emergency supplemental bill, 4 months into this war, Senators added reporting requirements & other oversight, but only on humanitarian aid for Palestinians—still NO reporting or conditions on aid to Israel, which remains largely unchanged from Biden's request.

"This new prohibition would block the remaining $300,000 the Biden admin recently suspended + any aid from the supplemental" - Seth Binder. Note admin's own comment via John Kirby: allegations of Oct 7 involvement “shouldn’t impugn the entire agency… [they] do important work.”
