her kiss made him smile, shaking him out of a bit of his hyperfocus. "the king asked for a better way to repair a broken hull... something mundane, for once."

"is there such a thing?" he asked absently. he nodded, wiping some ink from his hand on a spare piece of paper. "a break, yes. i can do that."

he wanders out of the lab with a frown on his face when he spots his wife. "genya!"

he blinks, adjusting his glasses as he looks around. "it seems that i misplaced my work," he replies distractedly, though he's less concerned now that he is in genya's presence. "never mind. what are you reading, my love?"

he furrows his brows because genya might be smiling but he has never been great at identifying such a thing. instead, he crosses the room to sit beside her. "flowers have a language?"

hmm?

oh, she was waiting? here he is.

the monk deserved it.

it was times like this that he knew everything they had gone through had been worth it just to lead them to this point in time. smiling at his wife. "happy anniversary, beloved," he murmured in return, leaning down to kiss her. "thank you for the food."

he could fake sheepishness, but the truth was that he often forgot something as critical to survival as food or sleep. he had hyperfocused on the table and while he thought it was nearly perfect, he knew genya wouldn't mind. "you know me. i wanted to make this perfect."

hmm? he's in the lab, as usual.
