This is true! Nyle DiMarco and Marlee Matlin are the two that immediately come to mind! My impression is that it takes quite a bit of star power for awareness in the US whereas in the UK there seems to be a much bigger support system at each level. #hearinglosshour

Social media does help! More public figures caption their videos now which is great. It just takes more for something to really get national attention, it usually happens via a cute viral video (baby hearing for the first time, ASL at a concert, etc). #hearinglosshour

Campaigns seem much more active in the UK, but the US has been getting better. Insurance is starting to cover costs of hearing aids, captioning is nearly on everything, and boutique ear protection and OTC aids have people thinking about their hearing more. #hearinglosshour

Making the issue worse in the US is all the over-the-counter hearing aid sales which do just that! Turn up the volume with no frequency adjustments 😱 #HearingLossHour

They shouldn’t be but I have definitely had to go back to the aud for poor fits on my BTE aid (usually where earhook meets tubing at the crook of my ear). #HearingLossHour

I’ve never heard this myth! Where I live people seem to focus on hearing protection for live events, and I know a lot of older people who have noise-induced losses. #HearingLossHour

Happy 2020! I am still not great at keeping up with Twitter but planning some webpage updates soon. Also adjusting to a new Oticon Xceed hearing aid I got yesterday and in that "I hate it" phase before I go back to the audiologist for more fine tuning!

Curious how many #deaf/HoH users have built IFTTT function into their lives? Specifically interested in the use of Philips Hue Phillips Hue lightbulbs (flash when phone or doorbell rings, and if app-specific phone notifications can trigger it).
