"says an analyst... requesting anonymity to speak freely"... is a patently Indian feature of markets. Such a hostile environment can not attract capital freely and so underperforms its potential, sadly.

Makes one's stomach turn. How do we tolerate such abhorrent exploitation which drives people to such extreme pain? Where's the conscience of the society of the fourth largest economy in the world? Shameful. theguardian.com/global-develop…

One has got to admire BBC’s devotion to artistry, creativity, and quality of production. Perhaps the best in the world. Even for a short intro video. The making of this trailer is fascinating . Making it even more mesmerising.

Refreshing to see an MP who exhibits astute awareness, has a vision, understands the importance of strong institutions and rule of law. Makings of a statesman. Such thinking needs to go mainstream in the Parliament. Hopefully, his party will emulate some of this in Punjab too.

An established journalist pleads to a private company for how the public space should be developed. 🤷‍♂️ Tells you how little control, the citizens have over their own city. Mumbai will remain shambolic as long as this is the state of governance. Surreal.

Bangalore also has a terrible road network with dead ends which funnels all traffic to a handful arterial roads. Routes don’t complement/feed metro because they don’t talk to BMRCL. Bus stop density is low. So no true last mile. Inexcusable for a relatively new city.

As many have noted before, American Founding Fathers understood rightly that all individuals are flawed, corruptible; so the power must be decentralised. Indian founding parents leaned into the idealism of individuals and so didn't put enough checks and balances unfortunately.

Other strong democracies also try to keep their voter registrations updated an ongoing basis but they don’t rug-pull voters on the eleventh hour. Deletions could’ve been paused 3 months before elections to give citizens a chance to appeal and be added back in time. Basic rights!

If India aspires to be a relevant power, a stabilising force for good, then it’ll have to step up in crises; get its hands dirty. Not just vanity, but for self-interest to be skilled in diplomacy to broker peace, make friends, influence. Not saying anything is also a statement.

Why would they need to consult citizens? The keys of the city are with the State govt and not BMC. The State govt doesn’t really need Mumbaikars’ votes. NYC, London are governed by their Mayors who cannot ignore their citizens.

Them being ineffective and useless is only because of badly-designed anti-defection law. An MP can’t dissent from the party, so they ignore their constituents. Party leader alone matters. People therefore also vote for a party as a result and pray that it’ll be kind to them.

Traffic police are the teachers and they are absent on Indian roads. No country has special schools to teach drivers. You pass a test after some training and keep learning by being alert to fines and violations. That’s how safe driving standards are fostered. Enforcement!

When unelected bureacrats are entrusted with so much executive power, you get no accountability... just out-of-touch sermons like these. No other developed country does this.
