The Olivier Awards were renamed in 1984 to honour British theatre veteran Laurence Olivier. From 1976 to 1983, they were known as the Society of West End Theatre Awards (or SWET awards!) after the original name of Society of London Theatre, the company that founded them. #TheatreTokens40
