It's safe to assume that males are obsessed with false rape allegations not because they think they are actually going to be falsely accused but because the prospect of false allegations would protect them if they did rape a woman.

The boogeyman of false rape allegations gives all rapists the perfect cover. Even if a male did the crime, he can count on an army of males behind him running to his defense and shielding him with the lie that false allegations are common.
