Currently part of a team building a Kubernetes project.... Recently reading lot of docs of Kubernetes Volumes/Storage/CSI and Saad Ali 's name always pops up in the docs... Great job...

Black hole "Gaia BH1 is just 1,560 light-years from our planet." Sounds like a mere stone's throw away, but, for reference, closest star is 4 or so light years away, and a light year is 🤯 far. Really cool nonetheless! space.com/closest-black-…

This is a step towards preventing Kubernetes StatefulSet/ReplicaSet pods from getting stuck on unexpectedly shutdown nodes. It will be especially useful if you have an out of band way to detect node state and apply the new taint automatically. Thanks Xing Yang for driving this!

This is fascinating. The early universe could support stars so large their core could collapse in to a black hole but not destroy the star. 🤯 youtu.be/aeWyp2vXxqA

You can now use blazing fast local SSDs on GKE to back your Kubernetes EmptyDir (ephemeral volumes). Useful for caches or any latency sensitive "disk as scratch space" use case. 🔥

IMPORTANT NOTE:As Michelle Au called out in Kubernetes SIG Storage meeting today, there are still significant image pulls for aws-ebs-csi-driver, node-driver-registrar, and CSI livenessprobe on k8s.gcr.io which is deprecated, please move to registry.k8s.io ASAP

Spanner appears to defy CAP theorem (no, it doesn't actually). Per Abstract Cloud "Building systems that manage globally distributed data, provide data consistency, and are also highly available is really hard. The beauty of the cloud is that someone else can build that for you."

This is a big deal! Real applications are rarely made up of a single volume. And now Kubernetes can take crash consistent snapshots of a group of volumes (alpha in 1.27). Huge shout-out to Xing Yang for driving this across CSI and Kubernetes!

Saad Ali (@the_saad_ali) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If you are the author of a CSI driver, please consider extending your drive to implement VolumeGroupSnapshot so folks can start taking advantage of this functionality in Kubernetes. Feedback welcome! If this goes well the plan is to add support for other volume groups constructs.
