New post just out With more doctors strikes starting today; worst ever waiting lists/A&E times; + 1000s of excess deaths - I look at why the NHS crisis isn't getting better and what the key causes are. "How bad does it have to get?" (free to read) samf.substack.com/p/how-bad-does…

We have a new report out today by Sam Freedman & Rachel Wolf on the hospital productivity puzzle. We identify 3 key reasons: 1) longstanding underinvestment in capital (beds, scanners, buildings) 2) the loss of senior staff 3) chronic undermanagement instituteforgovernment.org.uk/publication/nh…

I’m an oncologist and I love my job. But I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing our patients with cancer and I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing its workforce. lucygossage.com/my-reasons-for… #ConsultantsStrike

I speak as a consultant and an academic. I am not a BMA member but am FRCP. I think this undersells a serious issue as a generational one or a twitter storm. It is neither.

1/ I need to share how bleak Primary Care is. I’m a partner in my surgery and last summer, the CQC rated us as Inadequate and placed us into special measures. #PrimaryCareCrisis ... General Practice

Dr Sally Ruane, "It's true to say that the NHS is bigger now than it's ever been in the past. It's even true to say it's got record levels of funding and there are more staff working there than at any time in the past" "But there has been a big shift in the government's approach

There are now parallel tracks to become a primary care physician. One involves being in the top third of undergraduates, and then spending 4 years in medical school followed by 3 years of residency. An initial certification exam is followed by a maintenance of certification exam

Mike Christopher Snowdon Gus How many are now registered and regulated? All other professions this is mandatory, why wouldn’t it be so for PA’s? Doesn’t sit right.

ā€˜Strikes cost Ā£250 million which could train 1500 GPs or 28,000 knee/hip replacements’ instead Streeting is holding resident doctors + the NHS to ransom by threatening doctor jobs and refusing to negotiate on jobs + pay. Imagine using the money to negotiate? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Wes Streeting

A bit of background info on Wes Streeting that you won’t have been given in his TV interviews today - particularly in regard to discussions about junior doctors and the NHS There will have been no mention of the amount of money Wes has received from wealthy private healthcare

Finally getting round to using the excellent Dr Tony Goldstone modeller, but wondering how to tell if back pay is in the wrong year? Seem to have two different figures for pensionable pay, dependent on where I look... Any ideas?
