the thing about Iron Lung is that it’s not a popcorn movie, but it has a built-in audience unequipped for its kind of slow-burn, atmospheric moodiness, so you’re going to hear about how bad it is for a while until it finds its real audience, who are by and large going to love it.

Shoutout to the 10pm skeleton crew that prepared an unforgettable plate of aloo gobi and samosas and naan for me at their restaurant in a back alley of Hiroshima. I think back to that meal as possibly the first moment I truly recognized that I was my own independent person.
