After years of working together on African BioGenome Project, I finally met ThankGod Ebenezer in person🎉🎉 at ‘2050 Genomics’ workshop Wellcome Sanger Institute where the world's top genomics minds mapped out ways to save life on Earth. Just waiting on the world to listen before it’s too late🤞🤞

#Algae had billions of years to diversify into 14 phyla. You probably have less than 100 years to learn about them all. Enter: “The algal phyla”, #JPhycol Perspective series where experts introduce algal lineages in an accessible way. Read more here: doi.org/10.1111/jpy.13…

Our work on cryptic infection of giant viruses was published today in Science Magazine. We discovered a large virus hiding within a green algal genome producing virions. Collaborative effort spearheaded by Virginia Tech, University of Miami & NIOZ scientists. bit.ly/4lroSyC

Is the genome just a bag of genes? A new paper in Science Magazine now reports that for two thirds of an organisms' genes the position along the chromosome is actually very tightly constrained! Amazing work from my favorite night scientist Martin Lercher and his team!

Great team work led by Karas Lab Congrats all😃! A new approach to deliver DNA to #diatoms. Surprisingly simple and effective and not only applicable to Phaeodactylum tricornutum. Try it out even on other algae!

Thomas Mock (@th_mock) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Yes, indeed. Our new method appears to be widely applicable and therefore can be adapted to diverse diatoms and likely other algae, too. Currently, we are testing it also on Micromonas.
