Given all the Preller extension talk, it’s funny nobody considers that maybe he doesn’t want one? The ‘25 deadline makes sense if you think of it as moves made by a guy who saw the iceberg coming and didn’t want to go down with the ship.

Considering Acee's rumors about "Sotoesque trades", it should be acknowledged the very best thing the Padres can do is find a way to unload Machado or Bogaerts even if they have to eat 25-30% of the deal AND include Miller, Estrada, et al.

In what world can the Padres make not one but multiple blockbuster trades that don’t involve Tatis or Pivetta or any of their top relievers? Crone and Salas don’t qualify.

Relievers just aren't that valuable. Emmanuel Clase leads MLB w/ 9.5 fWAR since 2021 (avg 1.9/season). Trading De Vries for Miller was insanely dumb, and if they can undo that deal somewhat (even if they get only 75 cents on the dollar for De Vries) it's a good idea.

Nobody is upset that the players get paid. Unserious take. How about a system in which the MLBPA gets a bigger share of MLB’s revenue in exchange for a salary cap and floor? So more money goes to players but in a more equitable way? This is how the NFL and NBA work.

The Atlanta Braves financial statements are publicly available and serve as a general guide for understanding the business of baseball. Any good accountant can move some decimals here and there, but these are a good starting ground. The Braves made $46M in profit last year on

Sure, other reforms could solve the problem: national TV deal, greater rev sharing, salary floor, loss of 1st round picks and all intl signing money for repeat luxury tax offenders, et al. But Ken says none of that here, and he’s never bothered to represent the public interest.

If you want to defend MLB’s system, just think about the Micah Parsons trade. The MLB equivalent is the Dodgers developing a homegrown generational superstar and trading him to the Brewers, who promptly sign him to a groundbreaking deal. It’s literally unimaginable.

Dodgers fans don't have to explain themselves. They should enjoy the spoils. But it's silly to bend over backwards to defend a structurally uncompetitive system simply because you're the beneficiary. You sound like Paris Hilton railing against inheritance taxes.

There’s a broad misconception that in order to be “pro labor” one must be opposed to salary caps in sports. However, salary cap leagues that guarantee more rev sharing with the union have seen labor salaries increase at a greater rate than in MLB.

Imagine all the concessions union could get in exchange for a cap: salary floor, service time earned with less games/yr, higher pre-arb and arb salaries, higher minimums, maybe a year off club control before FA? All this would benefit the rank and file union members tremendously.
