It ended how every eviction ends. Whatever shelter ppl got put into won’t last b/c it wasn’t made for them. They will pitch tents somewhere else & ppl that weren’t placed have already made other encampments somewhere. The whole process will repeat itself in 6ish weeks.

This saddens me. What I saw was ppl who showed up Monday out of care & concern for human beings. And what I personally heard from DHS head ACP OTD, OTR/L that night was that the city did NOT have beds for everyone. I appreciated his honesty. But this rewriting of history is not ok.

The media plays a role in the criminalization of poverty, & the stigmatization that surrounds the unhoused and here’s a great example of that. The question could be “Should it be legally required that all persons, including the unhoused, have access to clean restrooms?”

The Mayor tried to hide our unhoused neighbors from Kamala Harris & the DNC but reminders were placed outside City Hall so our guest would know why it was barricaded. A coalition of orgs will continue to fight united for accountability for the evictions and jail deaths under TJ.
