Changes are being made to strata bylaws to open up more housing options for people. Stratas can no longer ban rentals, and age restrictions will be removed, except for age 55+. Restrictions on short-term rentals like AirBnBs will still be in place. StrongerBC.gov.bc.ca/Housing

Q: How do I get my security deposit back? After doing a move-out inspection, you have 1 yr to give your forwarding address to your landlord in writing. They then have 15 days to return it, obtain your written agreement to keep it, or apply to the RTB for an order to keep it.

Effective Jan 1, 2023, security & pet deposits require interest upon their return to the tenant. So if a security deposit was made April 1, 2018 and returned April 1, 2023, interest would be calculated from Jan. 1, 2023 to April 1, 2023. RTB's online interest calculator available
