The ceremony was the occasion of what the Evening Telegraph described as scenes 'unheard in the history of Nationalist demonstrations in Dublin' as the Lord Mayor was met with 'hissing, hooting, and booing' by supporters of the Boers. There was even a display of 'fisticuffs'!

The very first thing I was asked to do as a library assistant, in Coolock Library, was storytime. I didn’t expect to find myself doing it again forty years later to a group of Korean children! It was great fun. Dublin City Libraries Dublin UNESCO Irish Embassy Korea Michelle Winthrop, Ambassador of 🇮🇪 to 🇰🇷

This Charles II charter (1661) was given to Dublin by the monarch. Written in English, it grants command of a foot company to the Mayor of Dublin and his successors. This was done as a way of commemorating the role of Alderman Robert Deey, in securing the King’s restoration.
