A3: I’m lucky to have a garage studio, but I often make art at my kitchen table or work desk. I used to sometimes do collage in the classroom between classes. Juggling these dual careers is hard! I’m writing about it in New Visionary Magazine. #k12artchat The Creativity Dept

A4: So many! Time & funding = major barriers, especially when adding “mom” to the list of roles. There is also a lack of respect in the art world for artists who teach at the K-12 level. I’m trying to change that by highlighting teaching artists! #k12artchat The Creativity Dept

A2: YES!! I’m inspired by the color combos & brilliant ideas of students (+ my daughter). An active studio practice helps me empathize with students undertaking the creative process. The thought & research that goes into both endeavors often overlaps. #k12artchat The Creativity Dept.

A5: Working on the respect gap, but as for time, I’m using the overlaps in these dual careers to make my time pull double duty as much as possible! The funding barrier is a hard one - I work within a budget, apply for grants, and keep dreaming big. #k12artchat The Creativity Dept

A7: This is hard for me! I tend to take on way too much, but am working on saying “No” and prioritizing the things I really want to do. I’ve slowed down with the podcast to make time for art, family, and health. #k12artchat The Creativity Dept

Sometimes you have to have a day to play with materials WITH your students. Don’t forget your why. Enjoy the lightbulb moments with kids. #k12artchat

A1: Self-care for me is all about grace/patience with myself. Making time for art-making, but also letting myself veg out sometimes; prioritizing health even when it means slowing down on some goals.

Q2: It varies now that my schedule is so flexible. If I've plugged away all day and gotten work done, I stop by 5 and try not to check anything on weekends... but the other projects (podcast, art, curating, writing) push into my "off" times.
