Passable Wargamer, good enough historian, average to poor front row, nostalgic Old Pangbournian. 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Retweets + likes =/= endorsement.

Honouring the brave men and women of the Merchant Navy at today's commemorative service. Their dedication and sacrifice, past and present, continue to inspire us. We remember and thank them for their invaluable service. #MerchantNavyDay #LestWeForget

Managed to read four books on my 7 day holiday - not too shabby. Slightly eclectic mix but hey ho! (Alright not that eclectic 3 of them are essentially about the age of sail)

My favourite quote from my research today - from Lt Urbank in 1741 “I embarked for England June the 3rd. Having the mortification to find myself the only officer of the whole army below the rank of Colonel that has not obtained some step [promotion] by the expedition”

This is obviously balls. Pints aren’t big enough. That’s why I always want another one. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I’m fairly sure this has been “published next year” since I was in 6th Form. (An upsettingly long time ago) Immensely looking forward to this.

Really enjoying this so far from Rob Griffith Not strictly my period (not enough wigs - or Whigs for that matter. Hats are the wrong shape etc) but it’s a history that actually uses primary sources to do the strategic to tactical level of a campaign. Smashing stuff.

Boarders Away!! I can finally say I’ve stood on the Quarterdeck of a Spanish Galleon. I may have paid admission rather than led a brooding party over the bulwarks, cutting down the defenders amidships before charging the quarterdeck but still! Was brilliant!
