Learning research means doing research: Tracy Johnson “If a kid wants to play soccer, you don’t say, ‘You have to 1st learn all the rules, watch other people play & read about the soccer greats, & maybe in a couple years, we’ll let you kick the ball.’ No!” ucla.in/2GrGHeD

I have a mild fever and chest congestion—I am staying home and the Yale Health Center called to hear the message, “routine testing for COVID-19 is not available”. We are terribly underestimating the severity of this pandemic. #COVID19 #FlattenTheCurve

Let's dispel the notion that "novel coronavirus is just like the flu". Sharing this striking comparison of #Flu, #COVID19, #SARS and #MERS made by BioRender. #COVID19 is 30x more deadly and almost 2x more contagious than the flu. We have no existing immunity to COVID19.

Lineage B1 shows mainly genomes from NY state, with CT genomes interleaved among them. This suggests New York as the main source of viruses causing outbreaks in Connecticut, introductions that have been leading to sustained transmission chains in CT.

Incredibly important work from some really hard working individuals that will hopefully overhaul our #SARSCoV2 testing.

NCBI GEO and SRA only accepts hdf5 and fastq files for Nanopore data. Fast5 are a type of hdf5 file but were rejected - how are #nanopore fans handling this? Is there a conversion software? Can you just change the file extension? Oxford Nanopore

“We don't make any money out of this,” said Yale School of Public Health Yale Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases postdoctoral fellow @VogelsChantal. “We just want to make sure that, you know, testing gets scaled up and becomes more available so that we can… prevent the transmission of the coronavirus.” foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/coro…

#SalivaDirect has designated 3 labs to begin testing using our #opensource protocol around the country. Many more to come very soon! Schools, at-risk communities, and people all over can start to expect affordable and accessible testing! #COVID19 #maskup news.yale.edu/2020/09/24/yal…

Was just on a call with a well-known virologist who noted that it now appears the UK variant can fairly efficiently infect wild-type mice. Good news for scientists; bad news for the world - there will now be an animal reservoir that will be with us for all time.
