PRISONERS TRANSFERRED: Two prisoners have been moved from HMP Grand Turk to HMP Northward in the Cayman Islands where they will serve some of their term. The move has been taken to "improve security, decrease risk and to restore and maintain order", a Gov't press release said.

COVID-19 IN PRISON: Fourteen members of staff at Her Majesty's Prison in Grand Turk tested positive for Covid-19 - but no prisoners are symptomatic. All staff that remains on duty have received negative Covid-19 tests within the last 48 hours.

BUTCH STEWART DIES: Chairman of the Sandals Group Gordon 'Butch' Stewart died yesterday, it has been confirmed. Premier Sharlene Cratwright Robinson described his passing as a "Caribbean loss".

VACCINES IN TCI: The first batch of Covid-19 vaccines arrived in the Turks and Caicos Islands yesterday. Governor Nigel Dakin joined healthcare representatives to meet the flight before the vaccines were transported to TCI Hospital CEO Dr Denise Braithwaite and her team.

BREAKING NEWS: Lillian Boyce, former minister in Michael Misick's government and defendant in the five year long SIPT trial, just minutes ago pled guilty to misconduct in public office. Sentencing is expected in coming days.

BREAKING NEWS: A sinking vessel has been reported 11 miles south of Providenciales - a rescue operation is underway. Police Commissioner Trevor Botting said: "This remains an ongoing incident and further details will be released later when more is known about the circumstances."

BREAKING NEWS: Former government minister Lillian Boyce has been ordered to repay $1 million to the Treasury after pleading guilty to misconduct in public office. Boyce was also given a suspended custodial sentence of six months.

BREAKING NEWS: Judge Paul Harrison who presided over the TCI's government corruption trial for the past five years, died today aged 83, according to the Jamaica Gleaner.

PNP WINS: The Progressive National Party has won nine out of ten electoral district seats in the February 19 general election, according to the Governor's Office. The winners of the five all island seats are yet to be announced.

CLEAN SWEEP: The PNP has won all of the five at large all island seats in the House of Assembly, the Elections Department has just announced. Along with the nine electoral district wins, the party has gained 14 seats in the House of Assembly - an overwhelming majority.

BREAKING NEWS: Former premier Hon. Sharlene Cartwright Robinson has resigned as leader of the PDM party. According to a party press release today, her resignation was accepted by the PDM’s executives on Saturday, February 20.

APPOINTED MEMBERS: Governor Nigel Dakin has chosen Willin Belliard and Harold Charles as his appointed members of the House of Assembly. "...the two members of the House will take no direction from me – they will vote with their conscience as Turks and Caicos Islanders," he said.

SEARCH CONTINUES: The family and friends of Ruperto Mercado are still searching for him a month after the cargo boat he was working on capsized. He was the only person of the eight member crew who was not rescued in the incident 30 miles from Providenciales.

BREAKING NEWS: The five year long corruption trial, which came to an end on February 7 with the death of Justice Paul Harrison, will continue as a new trial. Director of Public Prosecution, Eugene Otuonye QC in Supreme Court today announced the retrial of the accused.

VICTIM NAMED: The man killed during a robbery in Grand Turk yesterday has been named as 66-year-old Fred Russell Bryan. The incident took place at a bar on Frith Street sometime before 8.40pm. Anyone with information can call 911 or Crimestoppers confidentially on 1-800-8477.

The prosecution of Michael Misick and others has been (temporarily) stayed until May 31. Chief Justice Mabel Agyemang has dismissed two of three applications by the accused to stay the proceedings, and partially granted the one that deals with abuse of process, with conditions.

A 27-year-old man was tragically killed in a car crash on Leeward Highway in Providenciales on Saturday. The driver of the second vehicle that was involved in the incident was not injured.
