Six Northern England county flags. North West and North East. Positioned from north to south. Tried to add Cheshire but it just doesn’t work. Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire on the west. Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire on the east.

A Durham Minster - in Yorkshire's East Riding! Howden Minster can be found at Howden in 'Howdenshire', a shire that once belonged to the Bishops of Durham. Constructed by the bishops and once under the administration of the Durham Priors, it's a forgotten part of Durham's history

Anyone with Alexa have any thoughts on how to train Alexa to correctly pronounce the name of the River Wear? Also if you want to be amused (or frustrated) ask Alexa the name of the river in Sunderland or Durham.

Out for a stroll. This is Broomside near Sherburn village. I'm a bit of a say hello to everyone on a sunny day sort of person. Love the way blokes of a certain age reply with "yareet bonny lad" or "yareet kidda" the correct address to a fella like me in my youthful late 50s.

Currently recovering from eye surgery so limited to places I can visit by public transport. Lovely day out with the daughter yesterday in the beautiful city of Newcastle.

Wharram Percy, East Yorkshire (👉englandsnortheast.co.uk/east-riding-of…) England's most famous deserted medieval village. Sold by the Percys to the Hiltons (of Hylton Castle, Sunderland) in exchange for Shilbottle in Northumberland. The Hiltons slowly evicted villagers to favour sheep farming.

On the term ‘Mackem’ : there was a derisive jibe about Sunderland shipbuilders ‘making’ (rather than ‘building’ ships) dating to about the 1790s. The first recorded allusion to this is in Fordyce’s History of Durham (1857). My explanation on YouTube m.youtube.com/watch?v=UY69NJ…
