Larry Dalliapoulos Heptaglemious Rtwjngaholes Eric Burnett, MD That mode of transmission for initial infection SARS-CoV-2 is certainly a possibility. Framing it as implausible does not make it so.

No, the fact of zoonosis does not suggest 'there'd be no humans left on Earth.'

Marion Koopmans, virology; emerging infections Peter Daszak It's absolutely stunning to me that anyone would still take the Market hypothesis seriously - that the first human infections happened in the heat of a major city - when even EcoHealth Alliance , Peter Daszak , and Dr. Marion Koopmans, virology; emerging infections clearly don't think that's how zoonosis happens.

A $16B framework was drawn up in 2008 with protecting the world from the threat of zoonosis and balancing human, animal and ecological health as features. And we didn’t know a respiratory virus is airborne. And then we did know. Whoopsie.

Ben Pierce According to Jeremy Farrar in the early days, any coverage of zoonosis was considered helpful to distract from the lab hypothesis: 'But grey... would in itself help!'

So yeah, zoonosis proponents should be more than happy to see this in Viral.

His letter is brief and doesn't address zoonosis at all, despite his 'no smoking gun conclusion'. The evolutionary adaptation of the S1/S2 junction in SARS-CoV-2 (which he does discuss), is quite different to that of pre-2020 bat viruses, where an FCS motif was conserved.

Laurie Garrett This is interesting - hypothesizes that SARSCoV2 may have emerged from pangolins to humans as a less pathogenic virus, then become more severe. It consider as far back as 2017 for spillover.
