June is such a fabulous month for orchids - a few recent highlights from close to home: man orchid, common spotted orchid, bee orchid, and common twayblade. #30DaysWild

I'm a novice when it comes to dragonflies so I was thrilled to be able to identify this as a Red-veined Darter at Kenfig Pool this afternoon; one of at least ten seen. I also saw my first Common Twayblade,Fen, Early Marsh, Common Spotted & Southern Marsh Orchids of the year.

The real Exmoor Beast... the diminutive Lesser Twayblade, one of our rare orchids and, sadly, only getting rarer WildflowerHour (back up account) BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland Wild Orchids UK & Ireland

Fly Orchid of course. First one I have seen here for 4 years but it did take 2 hours of searching. Also Common Twayblade and 8 White Hel. starting to flower plus Climbing Corydalis and Yellow Pimpernel BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland. I do like days like this!

At an East Kent woodland site this afternoon ,I found some Lady Orchids just coming into flower around twenty in all ,some very bright Early Purples (at peak ) and several Fly Orchids .Also of interest was some sort of Wasp with several Pollinia stuck to his head on a Twayblade.

Milkwort, mignonette, salad burnett, burnt orchid, twayblade, greater butterfly orchid, kidney vetch, a forget-me-not and field fleawort from a walk on the chalk yesterday. #wildflowehour
